Good morning readers,
I guess I should start regularly posting updates on this here blog and not just reviews, so here goes.
I had a pretty good week. My new job has me focusing on data research and helping the department be more efficient through procedure updates or system testing. It means I am on new tasks nearly every day. It makes for an interesting time, which after 19 years of Operations working the same tasks day after day, is a refreshing change. It’s great to see the changes coming for our team to make our processing smoother, which in turn helps the other Operations units.
Enough about work! My wife and I are starting a new journey with the Dave Ramsey course Financial Peace University through our church. We have started Baby Step 1 (saving for that emergency fund) and had a plastictomy with my credit card last week. It’s going to be a life-changing couple of years to get out of our debt, but I know we will have a stronger marriage because of it. The principles are geared towards Biblical teachings of how we should treat our money, but really anyone can use the process. Reach out to your local churches to see if any of them are offering the class – usually at a discount.
What games am I playing this week?
Well, the one I have put the most time in this week is Anthem, the new game by EA/Bioware. I am 8 hours in, and can say the combat is really fun. It really works when you have three mechs throwing specials at heavy enemies, giving “combo” hit points. The battle effects and game sounds were very well done. What is not so fun are the loading screens. I had to move the game to my SSD because the game was taking 2 min or more to load – and man does it load a lot. There’s an initial loading screen to launch the game, a loading screen to edit your loadout/appearance, a loading screen to choose your mission, a loading screen to launch the mission, and even loading screens within the mission! I don’t know why they thought this system would work – it really brings the player out of the game, having to sit there waiting for it to load all the time. The other big issue I have had three times in the past week was my sound cut out in the middle of a battle. The only fix I have found is to restart the game, which means you lose all progress on the mission you were playing when the sound died. Bioware hasn’t even acknowledged this as an issue, ugh.
The other game I played a little bit this week was METRO 2033. I never beat the game, and I want to refresh myself with the story before taking on METRO EXODUS. It’s such a well designed shooter, but it is def showing its age.
Tonight, I am going to see HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD. I barely remember the story for the 2nd movie, but I remember enjoying the animation and characters, so I hope to have a good time. I’ll give a review for it on Saturday.
Until then, have a great day!
Peace out,
Jason
